HOW DO I GET TO STELLA MATUTINA?
If you are flying to Switzerland, the easiest route is by air to Zurich airport, train to Lucerne (aka Luzern) station and then ferry to Hertenstein (the stop nearest to Stella Matutina). Students often meet at various points along this travel route and then travel together to the festival. It is a 20 minute walk from the Hertenstein landing to Stella Matutina (map). We will run a shuttle from the Hertenstein ferry stop to Stella Matutina on check-in day and check-out day ONLY. Shuttle times will be confirmed closer to the festival date.
The nearest airport to Weggis is Zurich International (ZRH).
Weggis and Lucerne are approximately 1 hour by car from Zurich. Please be aware that a taxi from Zurich to Weggis is likely to be expensive.
To access the Zurich Airport train station you should exit the airport arrival hall and cross into the shopping mall directly opposite the airport. The train station is on the lower floor of the mall and trains run frequently to Lucerne (Luzern) Station.
Swiss Railway runs frequent services (approximately every 30 minutes) from Zurich Airport Station to Lucerne (Luzern) Station.
It is possible to book a ticket straight through to Hertenstein including the ferry trip when purchasing your train ticket.
From Lucerne Railway Station, the Lake Lucerne Ferry terminal is a short walk (map). The Ferry runs frequent services to Weggis with the closest landing at Hertenstein (Hertenstein SGV), which takes about 30 minutes and provides stunning views of the lake and surroundings. Please note that not all ferries stop at Hertenstein and you should check before boarding.

If you are arriving at a time when we won’t have shuttles available, it may be a good idea to reserve a taxi in advance from one of the Weggis taxi drivers to pick you up from the boat station in Weggis or from the Zurich airport to take you to the Stella Matutina.
Weggis is a small town and it is easy to find ones way around. Most places are within walking distance. Lucerne is the closest big town and is approximately 30 minutes drive away by car. If you do not have access to a car, that’s not a problem. Public transportation is very safe and reliable in Switzerland. Timetables for trains, busses and boats can be found at the Weggis Tourist Information, located next to the pier by the lake. For any other queries about what to do in Weggis, please refer to the Weggis Tourist information website.
